Module 10: Draw Me a Star

Module 10: Draw Me a Star

Book Summary

-  Eric Carle shares a story about the different creations on Earth. From a star, to the different animals, to mankind, to rainbows and clouds. The images share a story of all the beautiful things that surrounds us.

APA Reference
- Carle, E. (1992). Draw me a star. New York: Putnam & Grosset.

Impressions
- This story has beautiful images.  The creation of the different things made in the story is very similar to the way Earth was created. Since the author is not named it is possible that Carle is talking about God. However, the short story gives an overview of what we have around us and many are able to relate with the story. The naked people were only obvious to me because I read about what the concerns of the book were before reading the book.

Module 9: Once I Ate a Pie

Module 9: Once I Ate a Pie

Book Summary
- These cute fur balls share a little about themselves as the story is read. Each dog introduces themselves and gives a description about things they do or like.

APA Reference
- MacLachlan P. (2010). Once I ate a pie. Harpercollins Childrens Books.

Impressions
- I enjoyed this story. It provided good descriptions for the poetry and can be used as an example for the class. The flow of the book goes well since it does not necessarily pause when each dog is described. The illustrations are funny and cute. Since puppies are loved by many this is a great piece to share with others.

Professional Review
- Constantinides, J. (2006). Once I ate a pie. School Library Journal, 52(5), 114-115.

Library Use
- Great way to introduce descriptive poetry. After the story have students write their own descriptive poem and share with the class.

Impressions
- This story was a good mystery piece. The dollhouse being a main point in the story makes it even more interesting. Moving figures that tell a story in their own world. Since the story is based on a girl and the aunt who find the dollhouse the story makes the sequence of the story even more interesting with the events that go on in the story.
